Cynthia: Grrrr… I wish Anthropologie would come out with a super awesome cat dress. This new cat dress by Tabitha for Anthro just doesn’t cut it for me.
Marcy: What’s your problem?
Cynthia: It doesn’t even look like a dress. It looks like a shirt with a skirt that doesn’t quite match. Plus, it’s too short. Same with the Chaton Shift Dress from last year. And Peter Som’s Cheshire Dress the year before that. And the Feline Karma Dress the year before that. Grrrrr….
I want a perfect knee length Anthro cat dress that I can wear for years and look super cool and quirky and not like a crazy cat lady. These cat dresses just aren’t … it.
Marcy: You’re so picky.
Cynthia: You are saying that I’m too picky?
Marcy: If the shoe fits.
Cynthia: Yeah, well, I still haven’t found an affordable cat shoe that I like either.
Marcy: So design your own.
Cynthia (perking up): Ohhhh. Interesting idea, Marcy. Hmmm… In the meantime, I can take this cat blouse from ModCloth –
Cynthia: And pair it with my ASOS black and white striped skirt –

Cynthia: To recreate the Gatto Dress as separates so that not only is it less expensive, I have many more outfit options. Problem solved.
Marcy (sarcastically): You’re a styling genius. Although obviously colorblind.
Cynthia: Thank you! However, I still would love for Anthropologie to design the perfect cat dress at some point in my lifetime.
Marcy (smugly): I have nine lifetimes.
*Note from Cynthia: If anyone tries this dress on, please let me know. I’d love to know your thoughts. Maybe I’m completely wrong and this dress is super cute!

I don't like the dress either. Looking at the close-up of the back, it's gathered at the waist which seems odd. Your skirt and shirt idea is much better.
If you sketched a dress or found a pattern and the perfect fabric, maybe Michael of Dallas could make it for you.
Yes, I saw that too. The two reviews on the site are not good. Wish it was just a shirt. Oh my gosh, Michael is one talented designer that's for sure. I bet he could make the perfect cat dress and make lots and lots of money!!

I actually like the dress. I've been meaning to go over to Anthro so I'll let you know if I try it on. I like your combination too! 🙂
Let me know!! I'd love to hear what you think!!

You know what, sometimes Anthro dresses have a big chunk of "spare" fabric sewn in under the edge of the skirt – my bear dress and my panther dress both have that, and I'm going to take both of them down very soon. Maybe some of these cat dresses come with extra fabric, too? It's worth checking. Though I agree, that Gatto dress doesn't even look like a proper dress – you're better off recreating the look the way you planned to! 😉 (The Feline Karma dress would've looked really cute on you, by the way. Just sayin'. :P)
So strange about the extra fabric. I wonder why they do this?!
Oh Gwen, thank you, but the Feline Karma Dress was waaaaaay too short on me.

I love your idea with the skirt and top. I saw that dress online and I immediately thought of you. I thought you would love it. Too bad it did not work out for you. I saw a girl in the parking lot with the most adorable cat shirt last night. I rolled down my window and asked where she got it. Amazon she said. My daughter really wants it. I have not looked for it yet. It was an overwhelming three days with my son's big sleepover party for his birthday and then his actual birthday yesterday. I have to catch up! I cannot wait for your ensemble to come together!

I love that your daughter loves cats and cat clothing! There are soooo many cute cat tshirts out there right now. And they are so in fashion. I swear every time I go out I see someone in a cat shirt or carrying a cat bag.

I too was disappointed with this dress. It looks like something from a cheaper store and more geared for someone under twenty-one. It would be so nice to have it longer and just the all over cat print.
Have a great day,
Stacey
Sigh… I know. It is too young skewing. I would have loved it when I was eighteen. I really think just as a shirt would be great!

Your archival knowledge of Anthropologie's cat dress offerings is quite impressive! Each one I clicked on, I had a moment of "Oh! I remember this one!" So clearly I am right there with you as far as knowing Anthropologie's offerings a bit too well…Bummer that none of these dresses has really spoken to you. But at least you have the sense not to buy them just because you love the cat theme. That shows self control. Which is something I lack. I applaud you. I think your styling idea of mixing and matching the ModCloth top with different separates is smart and practical. It might not be your dream cat piece, but it'll work with what you already have while still infusing a bit of whimsy and fun into your wardrobe.

Oh my gosh I am just seeing your comment now, Liz! Oh dear! I need to recheck my comment settings!
Hahahaha we DO know a lot about Anthro! Sometimes I feel like I scare people when I come out with the name of dress or shirt they are wearing. One of the things that keeps me from buying lots of cat stuff is that I really worry about the crazy cat lady thing. Scary!
