I Went To Anthropologie And All I Got Was A Tshirt

Cynthia:  So I had a two hour lunch break from jury duty last week and there was an Anthropologie within walking distance. Of course, since I was in Santa Monica, so was the beach. Which do you think I chose, Marcy?

Marcy:  Oh please. Between lunch, the beach, or Anthropologie? I think everyone here already knows where you headed.

Cynthia:  Oh.

Marcy:  So what’d you get? A flouncy skirt? A cardi festooned with rosettes? A quirky blouse in an interesting silhouette?

Cynthia:  A tshirt. Actually, two tees.

Marcy:  Do they have intricate dainty details? Puffy sleeves? Elegant embroidery?

Cynthia:  No. They’re pretty basic but they fit nicely. And the colors are nice.

Marcy:  You went to Anthropologie – the awesome ark of “adorkable” fashion – and got … nice tshirts?

Cynthia:  What was I supposed to do? Anthro has completely lost their mind. Everything on the floor looked like yoga wear. And 1990’s ugly boho. Shapeless tunics. Horrible fabrics. Horrible prints. And oh my gosh why oh why are they still pushing skinny jeans and chinos?

Marcy:  Skinny jeans, chinos, and basic tees at … Anthropologie?

Cynthia:  YES! Who do they think they are? The Gap? Target? … Gasp … Walmart?!!

Marcy:  Gasp.

Cynthia:  Exactly. So until Anthropologie returns to the land of well made, pretty, quirky, romantic clothing, I will simply style my tees with Anthro items of yore.

Marcy lunges at Cynthia with her claws. Cynthia jumps away, screaming.

Cynthia:  Aaaaaackkkk…. what are you doing?

Marcy:  You said you wanted to style your tees with items of tore. Just trying to help.

Cynthia:  Yore, Marcy! Yore!

Cynthia rushes off to find the kitty nail clippers.

Marcy:  What’d I do?

Cindy!! That is the cutest outfit/pic of you with a flower in your hair. I showed it to Michael and he said "is this an outfit she got at Archaeology?" 🙂 I agree with you about Anthro I couldn't find any fat jeans!

You look like Mom in the pic with the yellow shirt. And are those animal print Dr. Scholls?

Tha nks! Mom had an exact tshirt/jeans combo just like this in the '70's. Yes – those are leopard print Dr. School's. Very old.
Love that Michael calls it Archaeology! Really is annoying that everything is skinny and cropped. Grrr…

Hmmm… I really should take the time to fix typos BEFORE I post.lol
      Thanks and Dr. Scholl's.

You look fabulous! I love the shirts you got! You look beautiful! That skirt is perfection (I have it in mustard) and those jeans are amazing. I have a lot of their tees from popbacks and they are my favorite. I am wearing one now. ; ). I had to laugh at your 90s boho description. I am so in love with everything out right now! I cannot decide what to purchase. I love it all! It must be my past. ; )

    I love those leopard shoes!

Oh no! I hope I didn't come across as insulting. I never think of you as '90's boho I think of you as carefree and sunny! You always look so fabulous in your boho looks! You are the epitome of the easy breezy California girl! It is funny though – I love late '70's stuff that everyone else finds ugly. We must like what makes us nostalgic. And for me, the '90's trends just did not work for me. Oh boy. lol

Sweet Cynthia. You didn't come across as insulting. I took it as funny which is how you meant it. And when I say I love everything, that is a stretch. I think I love about twenty things right now. Most of which will never be purchased because of our weather. And cost. Sigh.

And thank you for the compliments.

That shirt & skirt are sooo cute. Is that a separate belt?
Your and Marcy made me laugh out loud.
Since I'm fashion-clueless should I avoid Anthro? I desperately need winter clothes. Where to go, what to do?

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch October 27, 2014 at 2:53 am

Yes, the belt is separate. It's an old belt from Anthro.
Anthropologie has some nice sweaters so I wouldn't say to completely ignore them. They also have some cute jackets. Try LOFT. They've got some nice stuff that is not as expensive. And as always, you really can't go wrong at Nordstrom.

"Items of tore"…yea, I bet she "misunderstood" you…lol 😉 see…she's so helpful:) luv ur tees and sorry to hear about anthropology. They r usually to pricey for me but the have (had?) beautiful things!

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch October 27, 2014 at 2:56 am

The thing with Anthropologie is to wait for their stuff to go on sale. They mark down just about everything lately and their sale rooms are exploding! There are still some beautiful things there – they just haven't been my style. I feel like I am in a rut fashion-wise, but that's okay since I have enough clothes anyway.

These outfits are so cute, especially the French one! That's probably my favourite of all your looks! There isn't very much I like right now at Anthro – except a few bits of stuff that's full price and too expensive to even think about, haha! BUT, they have really been killing it with the T-shirts lately! Like Jenni, I'm also wearing an Anthro tee as I type this – the Marseilles one! Funny coincidence, that!

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch October 29, 2014 at 7:55 pm

I knew you would like the French tee! Someday it would be so wonderful if we could all meet in person! A blogger convention of new friends from around the globe!

I have been thinking the same thing, honey! I am too broke to travel now due to the apartment, but maybe someday…

I think Marcy hit the nail on the head when she called Anthropologie "adorkable." I am missing some of their older vintage styles and wish that they would have done more Archive collections. I do have to say I enjoy the AG skinny jeans since I need pants that don't sag on me.
By the way, how is it that you look like you are in your early thirties when I think you are around my age? Your pictures are so pretty and I especially love the black 50's style skirt with your blue shirt and flower.
    Have a happy Halloween,
    Stacey

I also wish that they would have done more of the Archive Collection! As far as looking younger I have to say with pictures – it's all in the lighting and now filters. Also, I am not too up close to the camera. Can't you tell my face is always a little blurry?! lol
      Happy Halloween!
