Lavendel Dress By Corey Lynn Calter |
Cynthia is anguished.
Cynthia: Why oh why do I love a dress that looks like something a six year old would wear as well as breaks all of my fashion rules?
Marcy: Yeah right. You have fashion rules? What are they? Wear the most stupid thing possible at all times?
Cynthia: These are my rules.
- Rule One: Do not wear anything strapless. It’s uncomfortable. It has a ‘fall down worry factor’ of seven. It has a ‘constantly pulling it up factor’ of ten.
- Rule Two: Do not buy anything expensive that you aren’t able to wear every single day for the next ten years.
- Rule Three: Do not buy anything expensive that you aren’t able to wear every single day for the next ten years.
Marcy: You said that twice.
Cynthia: Yes.
- Rule Four: Do not buy things you can’t afford.
- Rule Five: Do not buy anything you can’t wear at least every. single. day. For the next ten years.
Marcy: Those are just parts of the same rule.
Cynthia: Yes. Because we still have no idea why on earth I am obsessed with an impractical dress that is strapless, costs too much, has polka dots, and looks like My Little Pony threw up on it.
Marcy: Oh I don’t like her.

Cynthia: I love this dress. I can’t stop looking at it. I can’t stop thinking about it. I can’t stop stalking the Anthropologie website hoping that it will go on super sale. What is wrong with me?
Marcy: Obv you’re in love.
Cynthia: So why can’t I fall in love with a sensible pair of pants?
Marcy: You’re human. You human girls always fall in love with the bad boy. Or in this case, the boy band who think they are bad but are really just cotton candy and bubble gum.

I luv the dress to and I'm not exaggerating! It looks great on you. It reminds me of a real party dress… Maybe you can wear it to your high school reunion? 🙂
Good idea! The only problem is that my reunion is three years away and by then I will probably be in love with something else just as impractical. LOL

That dress is really, REALLY REAAALLLLYYY cute. You could add an apron and some pearls and wear it everyday like June Cleaver in the '50s sitcoms.
Buy it! The party invitations will follow.
Another great idea! The problem with this one is that Freddy thinks it's a ridiculous dress (i know. sigh. men. they know nothing) I think he might really freak out if I wore it every day around the house. It will only encourage him to wear his black jeans and Steelers jersey every day. I am not sure it's worth it.

What's wrong with black jeans and a Steelers jersey?
Let me count the ways. I will probably be counting to infinity.

they look stupid.

OMG. My first thought was-Love that dress!! My second thought was-Oh no it's strapless, not for me. I have the same rule about strapless dresses but I love so many of them.
I am still laughing that you said it looks like My Little Pony threw up on it!!! I really do like that dress though!!
LOLOLOLOL!

Good thing Marcy is always there to set you straight!
Yes, but does she have to be SO straightforward about it?! LOL

That dress looks amazing on you! The shape. The vivid color. It is so good! I bet it will go on sale one day. You could wear it to a play. You could wear it to a casual dinner with a denim jacket. But you must own this dress one day. It was made for you.
Jenni
It will have to go on super sale. At least third cuts. By the way, Freddy is so mystified as to why we women all like this dress so much. I stopped trying to explain the appeal.

Wow. Beautiful dress, and it looks amazing on you! I agree with Jenni… made for you, can't fight fate. Fingers crossed that it goes on sale!
Thanks, Liana! My fingers and toes are all crossed! I'm getting cramps! 😉

You take great dressing room photos! It looks like you had good lighting too.
That dress looks very nice on you and if you are really in love with it and know that you will wear it, maybe you should go for it.
I don't think I have ever owned a strapless dress and I always feel bad paying full price. Do you have a birthday or something special coming up? That will help take the sting out of the price.
Good luck,
Stacey
Oh I know. I would feel horrible paying full price for this. At $228 it just cannot happen. My Bday is in November. Maybe by then it will be on third cuts and I can use my discount. That would be a dream!

I'm kinda with Freddy on this one. You're so cute but that pattern? No.
I will tell him! He will be very happy to have some back up on this one!

Oh Cynthia, I love this. Truly. It's as amazing on you as I expected from when you first shared you were lusting after it. I am not one to coach you forward on your path of practicality. I am the girl who buys things six-year-olds would wear, that are only appropriate for galas and dinner parties way outside of my reality, and that are way too expensive to be sensible. And yet I am so happy. lol And in love with my wardrobe.
In terms of the whole strapless thing? You can wear it with a normal bra if you wear a cardigan or jacket over it. And it would be so cute with a black cardigan. Or a fuschia one. Or a royal blue one. If dresses continually haunt my dreams, I usually cave and get them. Are you good on practical pieces? Is your wardrobe functioning just fine as it is? Then why not put a little more consideration into a dress you love so much? If the practical is taken care of, then I say "bring on the fun!"

Hi Liz! I am so sorry! I just saw your comment now! Thank you so much for the styling ideas and advice!! Oh gosh, now I am considering it again since it went on sale and i think (fingers crossed) it may get another cut since it is still not selling out at the sale price. Love your tips. Hmmmmm….
