Michelle Obama: Sunny With A Chance Of Hope

OMG OMG OMG…

Cynthia turns on the TV to watch Barack Obama’s last State of the Union address.

Vaguely bored, waiting for the speech to start, Cynthia taps her foot and sips on some whiskey.

Just then, Michelle Obama appears on TV.

Cynthia (yelling):  Oh my gato!

Cynthia chokes on her whiskey and trips over her feet as she jumps out of her chair. She falls flat on her face as the whiskey glass flies up in the air – its contents landing on her head.

penelope kitten (squeaking): oh my gato!

Marcy:  What is it?!

From the floor, coughing, and covered in whiskey, Cynthia manages to point at the TV.

Cynthia (sputtering):  Look.

Marcy (yelling):  Oh my gato!

penelope kitten (gasping):  so pretty!

Cynthia:  Now that’s what was missing from the Golden Globes last Sunday. The thrill of seeing someone look so stunning. Not only is her dress gorgeous, her hair and makeup are gorgeous.

It’s the perfect dress for this occasion. She nailed it!

Marcy (knowingly):  Michelle Obama is the most beautiful woman in the world.

penelope kitten:  she’s smart too. i wish she’d run for prez.

Marcy and Cynthia:  Me too!

Cynthia:  Okay – here are some stats on the dress.

  • It’s by Narciso Rodriguez.
  • Fans have dubbed it the “Sunshine Dress“.
  • It sold out at Neiman Marcus before Barack Obama even finished his address.
  • Originally it was $2,095 but was on sale for $628.
  • Rodriguez calls the color Marigold but there is a fierce debate waging on Twitter about the true color – mustard? mango? lemon? saffron? sunflower?

penelope kitten (squeaking):  i like “sunshine”.

Marcy:  Forget Pantone’s creepy baby soft colors for 2016 –  “sunshine” is the color everyone will be wearing this year. I know it.

Cynthia:  You may be right, Marcy.

Marcy:  I’m always right. Just let everyone know I said so. I want the credit.

Cynthia:  Below are some “sunshine” dresses available right now. We should all get one and wear them on the same day! An army of sunshine!

Marcy:  Now that’s just weird.

penelope kitten (squeaking):  i like it.

I agree with everything you’ve said here! I can’t tell you how much I love Michele!!! However, Barack said today that she will not run for president 🙁 Maybe she’ll change her mind and run with Elizabeth Warren. How amazing would that be? Love, love, love the dress (and the other options you listed!)!!!

OMG (oh my gato) could you imagine a Michelle Obama/Elizabeth Warren ticket?!!! OMG!

Michelle reminds me of Jackie Kennedy Onassis in the first lady style competition. Both are/were stunning, always. Jackie, though, was remote and formal, possibly shy, while Michelle is out there, completely lovable and comfortable with herself.
Let’s start the campaign now. Michelle and Elizabeth in 2020!

I bet you never thought that you would get more excited about the State of the Union address, then the Golden Globes! I agree, Michelle always looks awesome.

No! I couldn’t believe it. I really was blown away! Just… WOW! I wanted to cry. How can someone be that gorgeous?!

Haha! I love Pantone’s creepy baby soft colors for spring! I’m sorry to tell you you’ll be seeing a lot of it in the coming weeks! lol I do love this vibrant shade, but it’s one I have a lot of trouble wearing. Like most yellows, I’ll admire it from afar.

Michelle Obama is truly a fashion and style icon. I think she’ll be remembered for her iconic style much as Jackie Kennedy is remembered for hers. And crazy that the dress sold out within minutes of viewers spotting her on their televisions!

Actually, I like the baby soft Pantone colors! It’s Marcy who’s the critic! lol Although I do prefer the yellow over them. 🙂

The shoppers who fell in love with this dress and were able to obtain it really scored with this price point.
The color of the dress looks so much like Mango in the picture but since the designer named it Marigold, it’s probably more on the yellow side.
The good news for people in love with the dress is that it is a classic wool sheath that should be easy to find. Maybe not in this color but at least they can have this style. I did this with Michelle Obama’s teal sheath dress that had 3/4 sleeves. I found a similar style at Marshalls in black by Calvin Klein.
    Thanks for sharing,

There was a fierce debate on Twitter as to the exact shade this was. LOL I agree that it does look like Mango on the monitor. Excellent tip about trying to find this dress at a Marshalls type store!!

Michelle is just so stunning. She has amazing style and elegance. Remember when she wore that Anthro dress on TV? Tracy Reese, I think it was – and she rocked it so hard!

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 26, 2016 at 2:16 pm

Oh my gosh YES! I even think I blogged about it. Or one of them anyway. She has worn Tracy Reese several times. Love love love Michelle Obama!

Gorgeous dress. She is so classy . I love her style!

I think it’s mango! And that’s hilarious that it sold out before Obama was even done his address!

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch January 28, 2016 at 12:56 pm

Looks like we are all agreeing that it’s mango!
