Cynthia: So here we are at Part Two of our Styling The Wives of Pancho Villa blog post series for the play, Telenovela Wives of Pancho Villa, by Jeffery Atik.
Marcy: Just get on with it already.
Cynthia: Wife #2 is Juanita, played by powerhouse actor, Paula Rebelo.

Cynthia: Seriously, Paula is an incredible force onstage. I could watch her work all day. She attacks her part with precision and playfulness and fills up the entire theatre. She is awesomely talented. Plus, OMG, she’s so gorgeous.
Marcy (in love): Do you think she would let me be her kitty?
Cynthia: Paula’s character, Juanita, has a face off with first wife, Dona Luz, so I wanted to put her in the reverse colors of Dona Luz. Black top and pink skirt.

Cynthia: The top is thrifted and the skirt is from Forever 21. It was a steal at $7.80. I added the green flower to tie in the other costumes that I will get to later on.

Marcy: Hey. I added the green flower.
Cynthia: You mean you tried to kill the green flower because you thought it was a sick bird and therefore, easy pickings.
Marcy: Shhhh… I want Paula to think I gave her something special so she’ll let me be her kitty.
Cynthia: I’m not sure Paula wants a high maintenance kitty who exhibits terrorist tendencies on a daily basis.
Marcy: You’re wrong, Cindy. Everybody wants a homicidal kitty in their life.

Cynthia and Marcy, you two are amazing. The fact that you found these pieces for next to nothing, made them fit perfectly and look beautiful…you are both quite talented, homicidal tendencies and all. The actors must have been very pleased that you made them look so good.

Paula is beautiful! I think people don't realize how much thought goes into costumes for a play or film – it helps to set the whole mood!
Thank you, Lisa! Yes – there is a lot to think about. I love hearing real costume designers in movies talk about their work and how they came up with their ideas.It can be incredibly intricate.

Wow, she really is a stunner! And I feel for you, costuming people is hard – especially when they reject your costume choices, and/or insist on bringing in their own weird idea of what the character should wear… (I've been there!) Just one thing, that F21 skirt is perhaps a little see-through? Maybe it could look more period with a long slip underneath? 🙂
Hi Gwen! I got very lucky in that my costume choices were received well by the actors. Yay!
We decided to not go all out on the period look and rather think of it as how a telenovela producer might costume it. And since those telenovelas get super sexy we thought the short skirt underneath see – through panels were the way to go. I was so happy that F21 had a bunch of those skirts. Even Kazandra's skirt in the previous post has see -through panels.Oh – and it is sooooo incredibly HOT in the theatre that everyone was glad we decided not to go full on 1914. Honestly, I do not know how people survived in the heat in their clothes back then. yikes!
