Cynthia struts into Marcy’s Nap Area grooving to a Bee Gees song, pretending she is John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever.
Cynthia: In keeping with the groovy ’70’s theme we’ve got going on lately, I thought I would mention that flared jeans are EVERYWHERE right now, Marcy! I am way cool.Cynthia starts to dance the hustle, waving her disco ball in the air.
Marcy: Yeah, in your dreams, Cindy. Now get that disco ball out of my face
Cynthia (hustle dancing): It’s true. Bells are back, Baby!Marcy: You mean you are actually and truly on trend right now? Prove it.
Cynthia: Well, first off – look at one of our favorite bloggers- Jenni of GnomeLover – in flares. She has perfected the modern day easy breezy California Girl look that Christie Brinkley made so popular back in the ’70’s.

Marcy (sighing): She’s so pretty.
Cynthia: I know. And funny. And sweet. And a super talented writer.
And look at another favorite blogger – Roxy of Effortless Anthropologie – in flares. Love her New York take on bells. Super cool.

Marcy (gasping): She’s hot.
Cynthia: I know. And chic. And fiercely intelligent and driven. She’s THE definitive resource on all things Anthropologie.
And here’s my first ever blogger I discovered years ago. The cheeky and stylish everygirl – Kendi of Kendi Everday – in flares.

Marcy: She is sooooo cute.
Cynthia: I know! Love her. Her blog is super famous.
Even celebrities are wearing flares like crazy.
Marcy: Yeah, what?Cynthia (triumphantly): So I know what the moral of this story is.
Cynthia: If you stubbornly wear an item of clothing for years and years, risking ridicule and taunts and family members who won’t walk down the street with you – eventually the tide will turn and you will be “IN”. Ha!
Cynthia resumes dancing the hustle with her disco ball.
Marcy: I still won’t walk down the street with you. I’m a cat. Not a stupid dog.

Aaaaawwww…everybody looks so cute! Much better than skinnies.
How many inches wide should an official flare be? Mine are 20" at the bottom, but this is probably a sad-attempt flare.
Oh, I think you are fine. Surely a 20" counts as a flare. It is at least a bootcut which I always consider a flare anyway. The jeans I am wearing in the pic are only 22". I really hope skinnies go away soon.

Thank you so much Cynthia! I appreciate it! Those flares of yours are killer. I love them. You look so chic and gorgeous. I cannot believe you braved the wrath of Marcy and went into HER sunspot! You are gorgeous AND brave!
I loved all of the other pictures of the bloggers. I want Kendi's entire look. And Roxy looks hot! : ).
Thanks again! You made my night. I might dream of flared jeans. Ehat a wonderful dream that would be!
Jenni
Thank you for letting me use your fabulous photo! Love it!
I am always bugging Marcy in her sunspot. It's just too much fun to annoy her a little when she is so relaxed. She secretly loves the attention.

These are all great flared looks, especially yours! I've tried this look myself but I'm not gazelle-like enough to pull it off.
No way, Lisa! You would look fantastic in flares! Seriously.

You ladies can definitely rock the bells! Cynthia, that outfit is really pretty and I love the soft pink of the blouse.
I love Disco too so I can relate to rocking out with groups like Earth Wind and Fire, etc.

Yay for us disco loving gals! Sometimes I feel like I am the only one who likes disco. I don't care! Give me some Bee Gees and Donna Summer and I just get happy!
Btw, the blouse is the Estrie Henley from Anthropologie.

You look great in those flares. I also never took to wearing skinny jeans, and I hope that the obviously superior style of widelegs is really back 🙂 – not so much to be in style, but so that I can actually have choices when shopping! BTW I also really like your pink shirt, I took a peek at the reviews on Anthro's website and several people commented that the top shrunk 2 sizes after washing – would you mind commenting if you had a similar experience?
Hi Anna,
Thank you! And thank you so much for stopping by and commenting. Yay for the comeback of widelegs!
I have washed my pink shirt a few times already. I hand washed it in cold water in the sink using Woolite. It has not shrunk. However, I do have the previous version of this shirt from last year and it DID shrink a little when I put it in the washing machine – not too horribly but enough so that I didn't want it to happen with my pink shirt.
Hope that is helpful! Oh – one of the drawbacks of the shirt is that it wrinkles very easily. But, I still love it.
