penelope kitten (squeaking): workin’ hard on raising awareness for black cats.
Penelope Kitten is answering phones, texting, and shuffling spreadsheets.
Cynthia: Oh yeah?
penelope kittten: yeah yeah.
Layla Morgan Wilde of Cat Wisdom 101 is having a kick butt kickstarter campaign for a book about black cats.
Penelope Kitten hastily hands Cynthia a leaflet and continues to work feverishly.
Cynthia (reading): “Black Cats Tell All. The First Anthology of Positive Stories About Black Cats.”
Oh that is so great! She’s going to create a beautifully photographed book with stories of 22 black cats. As we know, black cats have it rough, between stupid superstitions and the fact they get overlooked in the shelters.
How did you find out about this, Penelope?
penelope kitten: got an urgent memo from Cole saying they need all black cats with paws on the pavement to help with the campaign.
penelope kitten: i got Business Cat manning the phones –

penelope kitten: along with their cat featured in a story on our site during october – the official black cat month.
Cynthia looks around fearfully.
Cynthia: Does Marcy know about this?
Cynthia hears hissing and an unsettling kind of growling coming from underneath the couch.
Cynthia: Uh oh.
penelope kitten: my Penelope Perk sold out already but there are more perks from Cole, Scott Metzger, Crazy Cat Lady Ceramics, Diane Irvine Armitage, and more!
Cynthia: Ohhhh…
penelope kitten: gotta go go go.
Cynthia: Where?
penelope kitten (squeaking): marcy and grumpy cat are planning attack ads. i gotta rip up their pantsuits and plan a press conference.

The book will contain uplifting, funny, whimsical, weird, and moving stories about 22 unique black cats.
Layla Morgan Wilde’s plan is to help shatter the myths and superstitions that surround black cats which tragically affect their adoption rates in shelters.

Miss Penelope Kitten, on behalf of black cats everywhere, thank-you for taking on the cause. Your wit and insouciance will save the day. There will be many pavements to pound and pounds of catnip to use as enticement, but together we are black cat strong. Hear us roar and purr.

CatCon was amazing! I still haven’t decompressed yet! There were so many people there – the Fire Marshal had to close the thing down for a couple of hours. Just crazy insane. I’m writing a post next about the shoes ModCloth sent to me to wear during the con and then getting to the CatCon recap. It’s so funny – I thought I’d have a chance to relax after CatCon but just the reverse has happened and I haven’t stopped or had a chance to catch up. Which is actually good but boy am I tired. lol

Two out of my four cats are black and they are the sweetest. Penelope reminds me of our youngest cat Melody who always seems to be in a good mood. Growing up, my family had Burmese cats that are more on the chocolate brown color palette. But Dr. Bombay and Melody are my first black cats and now I am hooked on black cats!
