Catify To Satisfy (book review)

Catify-to-Satisfy3D-NEW-x560

A book about creating a friendly and stylish home for both cats and humans…

Cynthia finishes reading Catify to Satisfy: Simple Solutions for Creating a Cat-Friendly Home.

Cynthia (gushing):  Awwww… what an interesting and innovative book about how to achieve cat and human harmony in your house!

Just then Marcy and Penelope Kitten race by hissing and tackling each other and calling one another names.

Cynthia:  Jackson Galaxy and Kate Benjamin take you in to the mind of the cat. How they think, how they view territory, and how they create confidence – or cat mojo – in owning that territory.

Marcy and Penelope Kitten engage in an epic whap fest.

Cynthia:  Jackson gives some pretty great tips on how to figure out what your cat is thinking.

penelope kitten (squeaking): mine.

Marcy:  No, mine.

Cynthia (obliviously):  And, once you’ve figured out your cats, you can go about setting up some simple solutions regarding litter boxes, scratching posts, and vertical space to create the best possible world for them! This eliminates cat fights and creates that cat confidence which brings peace to one’s house.

Marcy:  Whap.

penelope kitten: whap whap.

Marcy:  Whap whap whap!

Cynthia:  The solutions are practical, inspiring and above all… easy!

Marcy and Penelope Kitten pause a moment, breathing heavily, blinking, with their ears back.

Cynthia (musing):  I’m always wary of DIY projects since I’m all thumbs and no patience. But, Jackson and Kate give a range of solutions from easy to elaborate.

The whap fest starts up again.

Cynthia:  My favorite is the wainscoting scratching wall.

Also, the catio!

And, Cat TV (Cat perches that look outside).

Cynthia: Hey! We actually have some of those! But, not enough. (thumbing through the book) Hmmm… We also need more litter boxes. Jackson goes into great detail about litter boxes. Fascinating.

Marcy and Penelope Kitten stop whapping each other and stare at Cynthia, somewhat alarmed.

Cynthia (turning to the cats):  Yes. That’s right. I just said that litter boxes are fascinating. Who knew?!

Intrigued, they both investigate the book.

And get lots of ideas.

Lots and lots of ideas.

Marcy:  When you add on to my Marcy House be sure to include my heated spa and big screen cat tv. I’d also like a rec room to practice my martial arts and bird terrorizing skills.

penelope kitten (squeaking):  i wanna a catio patio called “penelope’s palace.”

Cynthia:  And, not only are Jackson and Kate catifying our homes, they’re renovating and improving the shelter system with their catification plans through the Jackson Galaxy Foundation. Wonderful!

Marcy (scoffing):  So they’re a couple of do-gooders.

penelope kitten (suddenly angry):  like i always say “better to be a do-gooder than a no-gooder.” WHAP.

Penelope Kitten whaps Marcy on the head and runs off.

Marcy follows in hot pursuit.

Cynthia:  Looks like I better start catifying the apartment. Immediately.

Cynthia races of to Home Depot for catifying supplies.

What a cute couple, the ones who wrote this book! Great choice on blog-topic.

The cat scratcher wainscotting is a brilliant idea.

We have Cat TV here. The guys have their own bathroom, since I turned a closet into a litter box space. We go for walks in the courtyard, since my cats get leash trained.

And… they still beat the shit out of each other, like Marcy and Penelope.

I would love to fit my patio door with a cat door for them, but I have terror of crawly things, and I fear the cat flap would invite the uninvited in. Now I’m wondering if this would help stop the whapping of each other. They look like a ball of cats rolling around.

Can’t disagree with Marcy on the spa idea, but I’ll be damned if cats get one before I get a really good Roman bathtub!!!

you should get your cats a roman bathtub before you. it’s only right after all.

Great ideas! Our cat is long gone, but her “decorating” mark remains, aka some slightly shredded couch and chair cushion corners, and yes she also had scratching posts. When you finish your projects, would you share the results? Meanwhile, whap on, cats!

I’m lucky in that the cats only tear up the carpet and not the couches. I said goodbye to our security deposit years ago. lol

Margaret catified the house to her liking and I didn’t have to lift a finger. She designated all upholstered furniture as vertical scratching posts and all carpeted areas as horizontal ones. She created entryways in the bottom of the box spring so she can climb in and meditate. She also uses the clueless dogs as targets to practice pouncing, whapping and scratching so she’s sharp and ready if real prey approaches.

These are great ideas – I particularly love the scratcher wainscoting! We should definitely catify our new home, once we get one.

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch November 23, 2015 at 10:29 am

The wainscoting is my favorite too. However, I think the idea is to start catifying with what you’ve got and doing it immediately! 🙂

I LOVE all these catification ideas!!! I just went to a lady’s house who replaced half of her two story stair case with a dog ramp. (It was two stories high and she designed it herself!!) So, which ones are you going to do?

    • Reply MarcyVeryMuch November 23, 2015 at 8:14 pm

I really want to try the wainscoting at some point. Right now we are trying to figure out how (and if) we can enclose the balcony in our apartment. Although to be honest, we really are waiting until we move. Which will be any day now! Except that we have been saying that for three years now. I also want to put up shelves.
