Cat Street Art is everywhere in LA. …
Cynthia bounds up her apartment steps and bursts open the front door. Penelope follows a little more slowly.
Cynthia: OMG (oh my gato)! Los Angeles is teeming with cat graffiti! It’s everywhere!

by Hijack. On Olympic Blvd + Almont. Beverly Hills
Marcy (yawning and dubious): Everywhere?
Cynthia (waving her arms expansively): Everywhere! On sides of buildings. On billboards. On sidewalks. Downtown. Beverly Hills. On the Westside. At the beach. Penelope and I were in West Hollywood and had to stop the car at every block to take a photo. Every. block.

Just then Penelope Kitten throws up.
penelope kitten: blah. sorry. i’m a little car sick.
She vomits again.
penelope kitten: blah.
Cynthia: Sorry P. I didn’t mean to slam on the brakes and lurch the car into reverse so much.
penelope kitten (agreeing): lots of lurching.
She vomits a third time.
penelope kitten: blah.
Marcy: So you spent the afternoon lurching around Los Angeles, jumping out of the car, and taking pics of cats on walls?
Cynthia: Yes.

On Melrose Ave + Alta Vista. Los Angeles
penelope kitten (squeaking): she even double parked on La Cienega and forgot to put on the emergency brake and i went rolling towards Olympic Blvd.
Marcy (to Cynthia): And you weren’t arrested?
Cynthia: No. A couple of hippie dudes stopped the car.
penelope kitten: blah. i’m gonna go lie down for a mo.
Cynthia: Ahhh … feel better P!
Penelope Kitten stumbles off while Cynthia whips out her phone.
Cynthia: Most of the cat graffiti are black cats by an artist called Hijack. His work is mostly around the West Hollywood area.

Cynthia: But, you can also find tabby cats, cartoon cats, all kinds of cats in the nooks and crannies of Los Angeles.

at La Grange + Sawtelle Blvd. West Los Angeles
Cynthia: I keep all of them on my “Cat Graffiti” Highlight Reel on our Marcy Very Much Instagram page. Ohhh … I’d love to find more. It’s like a cat treasure hunt!
Marcy (wanting to get back to her sunspot): You should go look for more. Like right now.
She calls to Penelope.
Cynthia: Hey, P! Wanna go look for more cat street art? I’ll get you some dramamine at the drug store.
penelope kitten: and some ginger ale too, plz. i’ll drive.
Cynthia throws Penelope Kitten the car keys and they zoom out of the driveway looking for more Los Angeles cat graffiti.

“she even double parked on La Cienega and forgot to put on the emergency brake and i went rolling towards Olympic Blvd.” AHAHAHAHAHA!! I just laughed my butt off reading that sentence and picturing it.
The cat graffiti thing is so cool! I want to do that here. I wonder if I would get in trouble. Do those street artists get busted or are they allowed to do it?
They aren’t allowed to do it. A bunch of these have already been painted over. Or, someone else comes along and graffitis over the graffiti. Some places – like the pet store on Beverly Blvd – love it. LOL I do get a little insane when I spot them – as you can see from Patty’s comment above. Once I left my mom in the car for 30 minutes when I spotted one and could only find parking far away from it. My poor passengers.

cindy
I can sympathize with P-Kitty. I have been in the car with you when you spotted one of these! It is worth the motion sickness though. They are so cool! You definitely have an eye for them.
Oh gosh! Sorry! I really will keep dramamine in the car with me! lol
