Nine Lives Twine | A 2017 CatCon Vendor We’re Excited About

Pretty handspun yarn and fiber arts made out of your cat’s hair. We’re intrigued…

Saturday afternoon.

Cynthia is working at the computer when she suddenly hears some rustling coming from the “cat cabinet” in the hallway.

She opens it to find Penelope Kitten wrestling with the cat brush.

Cynthia (joking):  Hey P, what’d that brush ever do to you?

penelope kitten (squeaking):  nothing.

Just then Cynthia spies two shoe boxes full of cat hair. One that is obviously Penelope’s and the other, Marcy’s.

Cynthia:  Whaaaaat?

penelope kitten:  ok. yeah yeah. so. i’m saving our cat hair to send to Nine Lives Twine.

Cynthia (horrified):  Why?!

penelope kitten:  so Theresa, a fab fiber artist, can turn it into yarn and make scarves and toys and stuff.

Cynthia (perplexed):  Really? Is that… sanitary?

penelope kitten:  totes sanitary. but you have to follow the instructions.

Cynthia:  Oh! So it’s like a wool. Like from sheep or alpacas! I get it, I get it.

penelope kitten:  yeah yeah. and it’s so pretty. Theresa hand spins it herself.

Cynthia:  Oh wow! It is. It’s gorgeous. And, she’s got lots of different ways to incorporate your cat’s hair into the yarn if you don’t have enough or if the hair isn’t long enough. Theresa will either send you your yarn or you can commission her to make something.

Cynthia:  What are you planning to make with your and Marcy’s yarn?

penelope kitten:  a couple of these toy mouse bippies with Marcy’s hair.

penelpe kitten:  aha ha ha.

Cynthia:  Payback for her snarky mean comments in her last post?

penelope kitten:  yeah yeah. i think our readers need it too.

Cynthia:  And what about your hair?

penelope kitten:  a scarf

for you

to wear when you are out

and about

so you always have me with you

your p.

Cynthia:  Awwwww…

Just then a loud retching comes from the other room.

penelope kitten (excitedly):  gasp! hairball!

Penelope Kitten races off to collect Marcy’s hairball.

Cynthia races after her.

Cynthia:  Penelope! Hairballs are NOT in the instructions!

=^..^=

*Check out Nine Lives Twine website for more info about the process and ordering. You’ll find a beautiful and fascinating video about how the yarn is created on the home page.

I only wish I knew about her when Spike was still around. 🙁
(I think I’d feel weird with someone else’s cat fur, like I was cheating on my guys!)

      Ahhhh…
You know, I look at it like it’s just wool or alpaca yarn. The process she uses to spin the yarn is so interesting. And it goes through a washing three times.

Okay, so this is sort of weird to me. But you’re right that it’s exactly like an alpaca or sheep’s yarn. I’m amazed by the beautiful pieces she crafts from it though. Definitely interesting and surprising and something I’m going to share with my friends!

Exactly! It was weird to me at first too but as I started researching her site – how it was made, products made from the hair, etc. I found it so fascinating and awesome. I am hoping Theresa is incredibly successful with this venture. Can’t wait to meet her at CatCon.

This is so cool! I have a friends who has the two fluffiest cats in the world – they’re a breed called Ragdoll. Being indoor cats, their fur is usually very clean. And my friend is a knitting FIEND! I am going to tip her off about this, and hopefully she’ll be able to do it, even though she’d have to send the fur internationally. I mean… how much can fluff even weigh, right?

Oh definitely let her know! I met Nine Lives Twine at CatCon this weekend and their work is incredible in person! Theresa even brought her spinning wheel to show how it was made. It’s all truly gorgeous!
