penelope kitten (squeaking):  hi hi.

Cynthia:  We’re so super excited to feature the second story of the “Black Cats Tell All” Kickstarter campaign.

penelope kitten:  super duper excited!

Cynthia:  As you may remember, Marcy Very Much sponsored a (Penelope) Perk in which three backers received our #meow black cat book bag, a copy of “Black Cats Tell All”, and a post about their beloved black kitty.

Penelope Kitten took this job very seriously as she is determined to help “Black Cats Tell All” author, Layla Morgan Wilde of Cat Wisdom 101, with her mission to rebrand black cats and improve their adoption rates.

This week our story is about Beth and her adorable amazing oddball, Ezmyrelda.

Penelope kitten very seriously clears her throat and checks her notes.

penelope kitten (squeaking):  ahem. ahem. yes and thank u.

ahem.

dear beth, how did your mini-panther first paw her way into your life?

Beth:  I met Ezmyrelda at an adoption fair at the mall.  She was just 4 months old and so scared. Everyone kept passing her around and when I finally got to hold her, she curled up in a ball and looked up at me.  She was shaking…

penelope kitten:  gasp! so scary.

Beth:  But she blinked at me, and when I blinked back, she started purring.  She didn’t have a small, scared kitten purr either.  She had a big jet engine purr.  I wouldn’t let anyone else touch her after that. She was mine.

 

penelope kitten:  dear beth, i heard that ezmyrelda was v particular about her claws.

Beth:  Oh goodness, yes!  Ezmyrelda was OBSESSED with her claws.  If the tiniest crack appeared in the top layer, she would rip it off so her claws looked perfect.  She spent hours every day sharpening them. And she kept them shiny as well as very very sharp. When our vet tech took a hit from her claws he called them her “little switchblades”.

 

 

Marcy’s ears perk up.

Marcy (admiringly):  Did she use them often?

penelope kitten:  this is my interview, marcy. please do not interrupt.

Marcy:  Just asking.

penelope kitten:  dear beth, did she use them often?

Beth:  Well, I’ll put it this way – she loved to be held and petted.  She did not, however, want to be put down before she had her fill.  The little tips of her claws would come out so she would stick when someone tried to set her down.

She also did not like being left alone.  When I was gone overnight, she would point out that I did not have a permission slip with her paw print on it –

penelope kitten (aghast):  but you need to acquire a paw permission slip for overnighters! it’s mandatory.

 

Beth:  Yes, I found that out the hard way. Ezmyrelda always liked to sleep burrowed under the covers next to me.  So when I had been gone, she would wait until I was almost asleep, and then one little claw…point and POKE.  As soon as I jerked back to full awake, then she would purr.  The longer I had been gone, the longer she would not let me sleep.

She also loved to hide in shadows, then when someone walked by she would reach out and touch their foot or pop out right in front with her paws up.  Then prance away with a clear “Ha Ha I got you swagger.” She would climb the Magnolia tree (more showing off of claws) and knock the pods off at people or birds, or whoever happened by.

 

penelope kitten:  dear beth, ezmyrelda sounds like a v big trouble-maker.

Beth:  Oh she was tiny! Not even six pounds!

Marcy (knowingly):  I bet she was an alpha cat.

Beth:  She was a super SUPER alpha cat.  Unfixed tom cats would run away with their tails down with just a hiss from her, even when she was on the inside of the window.

penelope kitten:  wow.

Marcy:  Awesome.

Beth:  When she was really angry, she would put a paw up and flex her claws out.  Then punch.  Of course, it was mostly stuffed animals that faced her wrath.

penelope kitten (squeaking):  fierce!

Marcy (starstruck):  Wowza meowza! What a legend.

 

Beth:  Ezmyrelda was assertive, and vocal, and in charge. Mini panther she was, but she would have said, “regular panthers are just overgrown.”

penelope kitten:  dear beth, thank you. i will end our interview here on that totes awesome quote.
