Check out Rae Cook’s modernist cat art and somewhat dangerous Pissy Kitty Cards!…
(buying via the affiliate links may result in Marcy and Penelope Kitten getting more treats)
Wednesday afternoon. Marcy is gleefully sending Cynthia Rae Cook’s Pissy Kitty greeting cards.
Marcy: Hey, Cindy! Happy Birthday. “got you a little something for your birthday.”
Marcy chuckles. It is not a sweet sound.
Cynthia: Ummm… it’s not my birthday.
Marcy: Yeah well… Merry Christmas. “merry whatever and junk.”
Marcy snickers demonically.
Cynthia: Marcy. It’s nowhere near Christmas.
Marcy: Fine. Then congratulations on your graduation. “what an accomplishment. you disgust me.”
Cynthia: I graduated a long time ago and I thought you loved me?!
Marcy howls with malice.
Marcy: “i tolerate you.”
Cynthia finally gets up to see what Marcy is doing on the computer.
Cynthia: Oh my gosh! These Pissy Kitty Cards are fantastic!
Marcy: I know!
Cynthia starts gushing.
Cynthia: They’re cute without being cutesy, snarky without being offensive, and sophisticated without being stuffy. And, she’s somehow managed to make the menacing and indifferent attributes of the cat… well… charming!
Marcy (admiringly): She really “gets” us cats.
Cynthia continues to peruse Rae Cook’s website, heyraerae.com.
Cynthia: Ohhhhh look – here’s her video advertising CatConLA.
Cynthia: And her posters for Cat Internet Video Festivals!
Cynthia (squealing effusively): These are sooooo great!
Marcy becomes frustrated with Cynthia’s immature fawning and decides to play art connoisseur.
Marcy: Yes. Yes. Somewhat reminiscent of Polish Poster Art, Kandinsky, and the primitive lives of tigers. Not to mention a hint of human micro-agression and Grimm’s fairy tales. I’m thinking Cat And Mouse to be exact. Now, I wonder if Rae would agree that a theme of French existentialism also exists in –
Cynthia (interrupting): OMG (oh my gato)! You are so cute when you’re pretentious!
Marcy panics.
Marcy: You’re not going to pick me up and kiss me, are you?!
Cynthia (yelling): Yes!
Cynthia takes off after Marcy who is racing at full speed through the house.
Marcy: I hope Rae has a get well card! You’re gonna need it if you catch me with your slobbery kisses!
=^..^=

Love the cards! The art and the sentiment are perfect. Maybe I’m a pissy kitty myself. And the video was so well done. What a talent.
We know what Christmas card everyone is getting from Marcy this year!

“I tolerate you” is now my new favorite line. It would also make a great romantic comedy.
i’m writing it right now.

LOL I adore these! You’re right that they’re the perfect amount of cheek. Shopping for cards is so hard. Sometimes the funny ones are downright mean or corny. Or trying way too hard. These are perfect and so perfectly encapsulate the many “charms” of cats. The “What an accomplishment…You disgust me.” is my favorite. I was LOLing for far too long. What fun!

That’s one of my favorites too! Yes – finding the perfect card is so difficult. Usually if one makes me laugh out loud in the store then that is the one I buy. As long as it’s not mean!

Speaking of mean, did you ever catch Marcy and smooch her?
Yes!! I can’t help myself and she hates it. I can usually only get one kiss in before she claws herself out of my arms. Good thing Penelope lets me pick her up anytime I want. In fact, P likes me to pick her up and walk with her around the apartment. Cats are so weird.
I just got around to reading this and it’s too funny. I love how you ended this with the get well card reference.
My favorite card is the cat with the rodent gift. Gophers would be the best present of all from my cats but apparently lizards are easier to catch. Luckily they do not kill the lizards.
I have to add how much I like the “I tolerate you,” cards since that’s how I feel about certain family members.
Have a nice day guys,
Stacey
Stacey!!
I miss you and your blog! So happy to hear from you but sorry certain family members are driving you crazy. Why is it that family members are so good at that?! lol! Glad to hear your kitties don’t actually kill the lizards. I remember cats going after lizards when I lived in Florida. For some reason I remember they used to bite off their tails but the lizards would be fine and keep on living.
Hoe you are well and starting off for a fun summer!
