Modern Day Vintage

Cynthia: So of course I had to share another vintage photo of a girl posing with her cat. It is #ThrowbackThursday after all.

Marcy:  Of course you did. You’re obsessed with these photos.

Cynthia:  Kind of. This one makes me want to put on a romantic white blouse like this one for $410 that (of course) sold out immediately at Anthropologie.

Marcy:  As noted in a previous post, you have a serious problem.

Cynthia:  I know.  These two are more reasonable and just as pretty.

Cynthia:  And throw on a big bow –

Marcy:  Okay so you do know it’s not 1985 anymore.  Right? Cindy?

Cynthia:  And grab a cat.

Marcy:  Grab a dead cat you mean.

Cynthia:  No, I don’t mean that. What do you mean?

Marcy:  That’s a taxidermy cat.

Cynthia:  No way.

Marcy:  Take a good look, Cindy. That is one dead stuffed cat.

Cynthia takes another look at the photo.

And then another look.

And another.

Marcy:  Sorry to burst your bubble.

Cynthia:  You’re not sorry.

Marcy:  I know.

Is it really a taxidermy cat!?!? And I cannot believe that people paid $410 for that shirt. That is CRAZY!!

I'm not sure if it is a taxidermy cat. I really don't think so.

I think the cat is alive. Or was alive. I love that picture. I love what she is wearing. I did not know that shirt sold out. 410?!?! Wow! I have never spent that much on a single thing. Except a hotel room. Or a car. Or a house. It is super yummy, though. I have its colorful twin that I scored last year for much less. My daughter has been wearing bows like that all week. They sell them at Forever 21, so they must be in right now.

I can't believe I featured something that is in style and I didn't even know it. Obviously I need to hang around teenagers more often!

It probably is a taxidermy cat. A live cat would not look that alert.

Hmm. I'm not sure about the cat. I think it depends on when the photo was taken since the exposures used to be very long, and it'd be unusual for a cat to stay still for more than a few seconds.

I love how the lady and the cat have matching bows.

Did you see Jenni's comments above about those bows coming back into style? At least with the teenage set which probably means we'll all be wearing them in a year. 1985 here we come!

Please don't let that cat be a taxidermy cat. It can't be, right? How strange. Doesn't it look like it's claws are clinging desperately to the wicker so it doesn't slide off? I will agree that it's face is super strange, though.

I love looking through these sorts of photos. My mom just went through my grandparent's attic and brought home loads of these photos. The wedding portraits are my absolute favorites. I love the Victorian ruffles and bows. The embroidery and embellishments were so sweet and carefully done by hand. I miss that about contemporary fashion (as though I somehow experienced Victorian fashion in real time lol). Right now I'm obsessively stalking Chi Chi Clothing and their fancy frocks because they call up images of other eras. My obsession is not healthy, especially considering that I put myself on a three-month (ha! that's ambitious) shopping ban. See? Self-deprecating humor. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, see my comment on your 9 Likes post and all will be illuminated!

LOL…I don't think its a fake cat…her paw is hanging over the side of the shelf. Beautiful shirt, though.

I need to keep score! I am convinced that it was a real cat too because of the way his paw is curled up on the edge of the shelf.
