is that a latrine or a napping nook? …
Set up.
Penelope has raced from Los Angeles to Muddy Pumpkin Farms in South Dakota to find herself in the care of Barb, a no-nonsense beaver with a tendency to trash talk her enemies in inconvenient circumstances.
=^..^=
Utterly exhausted and finally feeling safe, Penelope wanders off into the interior of the dam and finds some cozy balls of sawdust to lounge on. She quickly falls asleep.
∼∼∼∼∼
Penelope groggily wakes up to an annoyed Barb standing above her with her arms crossed.

“Why are you sleeping in our latrine?”
Penelope looks around confused.
“These are pillows.”
Barb snorts.
“Pillows?”
“Yeah,” says Penelope as she looks closer. “Pillows made of… sawdust.”
“No. That’s beaver poo,” states Barb.
“Hunh?”

“Us beavers poo sawdust balls.”
“You do?”
“Did you not see how many trees we cut down for this dam?”
“Oh.”
“We need you to sweep the back deck and categorize the remaining twig remnants.”
Penelope yawns and stretches. “Sure, just let me warm up in a sunspot first. You got any snacks?” Penelope asks, hoping for a fresh fish.
Barb remains silent with her arms crossed, considering Penelope.
“What? No snacks?” asks Penelope, suddenly alarmed.
“Your work ethic is severely compromised, cat.”

At this point, PK is only halfway across the USA.
Can she gather enough gumption to make it to Salem, MA? And what travails will she traverse along the way?
Hint … it involves teenage cheerleading dolphins, an otter named Igby, and a clowder of spooky black cats. And her own ingenuity. It’s all in the book. Of course!

In a coast-to-coast race against time,
Penelope Kitten can’t stop, won’t stop…
except for snacks, of course.
When Penelope gets invited to squeak speak at the black cat Cross Your Path Convention, she’s positively pumped. Then she discovers that the heinous Hubert Hedgehog plans to crash the party and destroy everything with his hedgehog fund.
In this not-so-tall tale of fur, fins, flippers, and feathers, Penelope must race from Los Angeles to Salem, Massachusetts to stop Hubert, but since she can’t fly, she goes the long way, and sometimes the wrong way. Yet along the way she befriends all kinds of critters, from crazy condors to gung-ho gators to daffy dolphins.
Penelope Kitten’s Epic Adventure (with cheese) is the adventure of a lifetime.
Make that nine lifetimes.

Penelope,
I’m sorry Barb labeled you as having a severely compromised work ethic. Does she not realize you’re on a cross-country journey requiring stamina and calories?
And you are a cat after all. Naps and snacks are necessary for your survival.
(Hope you had a nice long bath after your siesta in the sawdust.)
I think Barb would label everyone she’s met as having a bad work ethic. She’s bossy and busy. lol
xo,
Cynthia
