Tuesday morning. Valentine’s Day.
penelope kitten (squeaking): hi hi.

where things r still weird.
cindy is busy trying to single-handedly fund planned parenthood with her pink pussy bracelets.
yeah yeah
our living room is now a one woman macrame factory.
and marcy is busy applying to every category in the westminster dog cat show.
yeah yeah
says she’s going to win “best in show”. or else.
so here i am.
feeling pent upped + pumped upped + positively persistent.
just like awesome claudia from aire flamenco.

penelope kitten (dramatically squeaking): and now.
i dance.
with duende.
(just like claudia).
Penelope Kitten straps on her tap shoes and gets to work to express all her pent-upped and pumped-upped emotions in the form of a flamenco dance. She has the intensity, focus, and adorableness of Batkei’s black cats!
BANG. STOMP STOMP STOMP. BANG. CRASH.
penelope kitten (squeaking): ow.
BANG. STOMP STOMP STOMP. BANG. CLAP CLAP CLAP. BANG STOMP BANG…
Meanwhile, Downstairs, Cynthia is hunched over her macrame board furiously weaving Pussy Cat Bracelets while Marcy is furiously filling out Westminster Dog Show entries.
Cynthia (not looking up): What do you think she is doing up there? She’s too small to be moving the furniture.
Marcy (distractedly): The real question is if I have a better shot at beating the beagles or the bulldogs? I think both actually. Bloodhounds too. Dumb dogs.
Just then Penelope Kitten very slowly and very dramatically flamenco stomps her way through the living room.
STOMP… (30 second pause)
STOMP… (30 second pause)
STOMP…
She stops center. She whips her head towards the audience, her right paw held high and squeak whispers –
penelope kitten (squeak whispering): duende.
She slinks off – very slowly and very dramatically until she is out of site. And then –
BANG. BANG.
CRASH.

Penelope, would you do the dance again and have someone film it? I can’t stop staring at the dancing cat picture and he’s not even moving. Can you imagine the You Tube sensation? You and Claudia in a dance-off?

I love Penelope. Seriously. Also, how cool is that flamenco girl?! Flamenco is one of those old art forms, like kabuki theatre, that seems to have evolved into this fixed “traditional” thing, and I love when people like her master those arts and then put a completely new spin on them. Like did you know that there’s a kabuki company adapting Shakespeare?! I’ve only seen the opening sequence of their 12th Night, but it was magical – using kabuki stagecraft they put a boat on stage and had all this mist welling up around it.
Oh, and if you wanna see my cruiser straights, I blogged ’em for you – sorry about the picture quality, though! 😉

It’s so interesting how Penelope Kitten has become such a fan favorite and gets so much attention. She’s being featured in another book about black cats coming out soon.
