9am. Cynthia stumbles out of the bedroom in search of coffee and a good day. She immediately crashes into an easel and steps on a watercolor paint palette.

“La Vie En Rose” is playing from the TV speakers.

Marcy and Penelope have been up all night painting with their cat Paint-By-Number kits. Marcy is wearing a beret.

Marcy (sighing loudly in French):  Excusez-vous!

Cynthia:  Excuse … me?!!

Marcy (rolling her eyes in French):  Oui!

Cynthia:  Why is the entire apartment covered in paint supplies and artwork? We already posted our Top Ten Paint-By-Number Cat Kits.

Marcy (wagging a claw):  Non. Chat noir.

Cynthia:  Oh that’s right. There are so many good ones, you each got a post with your own picks. Black Cat Paint-By-Numbers was last week.

penelope kitten (squeaking):  pardon our french but Marcy has become a  famous paint-by-numbers artist –

Marcy (angrily throwing her paintbrush):  Artiste!

penelope kitten:  um… artiste. once she compiles her list she’s going back to her birthplace of Austin, Texas to rejoin her royal family as its Artiste In Residence.

Cynthia:  There is no French royalty in Austin.

Marcy:  No. Not since I left.

Cynthia is utterly confused and wondering what choices she made in her life to end up living with two cats who talk, paint, and may or may not be French royalty. Or maybe she just needs coffee.

Marcy:  Now please go away. I have a Zoom call with Picasso, Degas, and Matisse in a few minutes. They need my advice on pigments.

Summer of Whimsy Reading!

In a coast-to-coast race against time,

When Penelope gets invited to squeak speak at the black cat Cross Your Path Convention, she’s positively pumped. Then she discovers that the heinous Hubert Hedgehog plans to crash the party and destroy everything with his hedgehog fund.

In this not-so-tall tale of fur, fins, flippers, and feathers, Penelope must race from Los Angeles to Salem, Massachusetts to stop Hubert, but since she can’t fly, she goes the long way, and sometimes the wrong way. Yet along the way she befriends all kinds of critters, from crazy condors to gung-ho gators to daffy dolphins.
