It’s almost time! We’ll be at Table L1-22 at this weekend’s CatConLA 2016!
Cynthia: Marcy! Marcy! Marcy!
Marcy: What? Buzz Off, Cindy. I’m sleeping!
Cynthia: Marcy. Wake up! C’mon. Look! It’s a picture of you.
Marcy: I hate pictures of me. They never capture the real me. And I always look ugly.
Cynthia shoves the picture in front of Marcy’s face.

Logo by Joanna Cheung of Rainbow of Crazy |
Marcy: Gasp! Is that what I think it is?
Cynthia (excitedly): Yes it is.
Marcy (super excitedly): A logo just for us? Gasp! I look so cute. I love it!
Cynthia (super duper excitedly): I love it too!
Marcy (exclaiming): Joanna Cheung of Rainbow of Crazy is an artistic wonder! She created a logo that is perfectly me! I am going to give her a big slurpy kitty kiss!
Cynthia: Joanna is so talented. I love her artwork and cat pendants and was so excited she agreed to create a logo for us. She was a joy to work with.
Marcy stares happily at the logo while swishing her tail back and forth.
Five hours later. Cynthia pops the top of a Friskies can.
Cynthia: Marcy! It’s Friskies time.
Silence.
Cynthia: Marcy?!
Cynthia walks into the office to see Marcy still happily staring at the logo and swishing her tail back and forth.

I love how the artist, Joanna, captures the sweetness and quiet contemplative aura of cats. Here is another one.

Her pendants are wood, painted with acrylic, and finished off with resin to create a luminous surface. She also does wall paintings, greeting cards, and tarot cards. We have her mesmerizing Flying Cat print hanging up in our living room.

I get an overwhelming feeling of hope mixed with melancholy every time I look at this picture. I think this reaction is partly informed by my experiences in cat rescue. I love cats but I am also always sad about them too. My husband, Freddy, on the other hand, breaks into a big grin when he looks at the black cat flying away on her balloon. He says it just makes him happy and reminds him how glad he is that we rescued our little black kitten, Penelope, from a creepy motel parking lot. And how much we love all of our rescue cats.
That is what I think is so amazing about Joanna’s art. She creates one image with so many different moods – you can’t stop looking at it and will always feel something.
Check out her shop at https://www.etsy.com/shop/rainbowofcrazy, her Facebook page, Twitter, and blog. She does other critters too – flying dogs, pandas, rhinos, monkeys … mermaids. And she just completed an epic piece of work call The Animism Tarot.
It really is incredible the all the super duper talented artists you can find while trolling Etsy!
